A Married Couple Becomes Fretful About Their Excessive And Hazardous Drinking And Speculates Whether They Exhibit Any Alcoholism Signs

Angie and Lenny have been married for six years. They wanted to experience some excitement and fun before they decided to have a family and so they with forethought constructed an incredibly exciting social life.

The central issue, it needs to be underscored, is that virtually everything they do for excitement somehow involves drinking. For instance, all of the parties with friends, happy hours, sporting events, family get-togethers, and dinner engagements they patronize somehow include drinking.

If they were occasional drinkers this wouldn't be such a difficult circumstance. Because they drink in an excessive manner, however, they are beginning to become aware of some definite alcohol-related difficulties in their lives.

For example, just six days ago Lenny was apprehended by the police for a third DWI and has been ignoring responsibilities at work due to alcohol-related health issues. What is more, Lenny's last two performance appraisals at his place of employment have been less than commendable and he has begun to fail to recall what he says or does the times that he drinks. Finally, Lenny has been having sleep-related problems and his family is starting to grow concerned about his drinking behavior.

Similarly, Angie has been feeling down in the dumps about things in her life and to cope with these feelings, she has been drinking more repeatedly than any time in the past three years. What is more, Angie has been getting quite a few throbbing headaches and suffering from painful hangovers due to her drinking. Lastly, Angie has been feeling considerably less active in the morning, she has been getting to work late at least two days per week, and she has been receiving some damaging criticism from her coworkers, friends, relatives, and family members about her careless and abusive drinking.

One Friday evening while watching the television, Lenny and Angie inadvertently found a fascinating documentary about alcohol facts and alcoholism facts in general and about the signs of alcoholism in particular. This TV program was a real shock to Angie and Lenny because quite a few of the alcohol facts that were listed looked as if they were unquestionably related to several of the drinking problems Lenny and Angie had been going through.

With thoughts of the television documentary still running through her mind, Angie asked Lenny if some of the alcoholism signs they have been manifesting could be a warning that they are dependent on alcohol or possibly becoming dependent on alcohol. Lenny didn't know the answer to Angie's inquiry and so he recommended that they make an appointment with one of the doctors at the nearby drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility to find out more about the gravity of their drinking problems.

Ironically, even though their drinking behavior hadn't yet changed, it was plain to see that Lenny and Angie were at least facing their drinking difficulties, they were willing to find out more about their drinking situation, and they were interested in discovering how they could significantly cut down the severity or get rid of the drinking-related problems that had started to go from bad to worse.

When Lenny and Angie went to bed that evening, they made up their minds that the next afternoon, Lenny would call and make an appointment for both of them at the substance abuse rehabilitation center located just South of the State Capital. After they made a promise to one another that they would do whatever it takes to deal with the alcohol-related difficulties that had manifested themselves in their lives, they in point of fact had the best night's sleep they could recollect in the last five weeks.
